Ghent University will award an honorary doctorate to Professor Klaus Kümmerer in recognition of his pioneering contributions to sustainable chemistry. As a Professor of Sustainable Chemistry and Material Resources, and Director of the Institute of Sustainable Chemistry (INSC), Leuphana University, Lüneburg (Germany), Prof. Kümmerer has been instrumental in advancing the "benign by design" concept, which focuses on designing environmentally friendly molecules.
Prof. Klaus Kümmerer is among the world’s top environmental scientists and is the most cited environmental scientist in Germany. His exceptional contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards that acknowledge both his scientific and societal impact. His work also served as an inspiration for the establishment of this international master’s program in Sustainable Drug Discovery.
The academic ceremony with the presentation of the honorary doctorates will take place on Friday 21 March at 15:30 in auditorium Leon De Meyer, Ufo building, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 33, Ghent. The ceremony can also be followed via livestream on this page, with an English simultaneous interpreter.
